Chin Augmentation

Chin Augmentation

Chin implants are used to permanently enhance features with poor definition or projection. Chin implants can be used to realign the structure of a patient's face & thereby bring harmony & balance to the patient's facial features.

A chin implant is a great choice for a permanent, natural looking solution. Chin implants can also be used to lessen the effects of aging. Patients with small chins tend to develop earlier signs of aging around the chin & neck.

Chin implants can be performed as a stand-alone procedure or scheduled in conjunction with another surgery such as a facelift, rhinoplasty or neck liposuction.

Choosing a Chin Implant

There are a variety of sizes of chin implants to choose from. During the consultation, a patient will be able to touch and feel the implants. The patient will also obtain an assessment from Dr. Jaggi regarding which implant he feels would be best suited.

If a patient is not yet ready for a chin augmentation, Dr. Jaggi may also recommend the use of a temporary injectable filler in the chin. Hyaluronic acid is a safe and natural, non-surgical option to chin implant surgery, where a patient can quickly and easily see the actual results of a more balance profile using a temporary alternative.

Chin Augmentation Surgery Procedure

Chin augmentation surgery involves making a small incision underneath the chin. Dr. Jaggi then creates a pocket above the chin bone and below the muscle. The implant is then placed and positioned inside this pocket. Finally, the pocket is closed using fine stitches.

The procedure is usually completed in an hour and performed on an outpatient basis with or without anesthesia. Recovery is relatively quick but swelling and tenderness can be present for up to 2-6 weeks. Patients generally find that they are able to return to work or their usual daily activities within 5-7 days after the chin implant surgery.

Chin Augmentation Preperation

Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding. If patient receives sedation, a responsible adult will have to take and pick patient up from surgery and stay with the patient for the first 24 hours.
